Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about SRT relay servers, SRTLA, and IRL streaming with IRLHost.
What is an SRT relay server and why do IRL streamers need one?+
An SRT relay server sits between your encoder (phone, camera, or Belabox) and your streaming platform (Twitch, Kick, YouTube). Instead of streaming directly — where a single dropped connection kills your stream — your encoder sends to the relay, which maintains a stable connection to the platform. SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) adds error correction and lower latency compared to RTMP. For IRL streaming, this means your stream survives network switches, dead zones, and unstable mobile connections.
What is SRTLA and how is it different from regular SRT?+
SRTLA stands for SRT with Link Aggregation. While regular SRT uses a single network connection, SRTLA bonds multiple connections simultaneously — for example, WiFi and cellular at the same time. If one connection drops, traffic routes through the others with zero interruption. This is what makes IRLHost streams truly resilient: you're not relying on a single network path.
What happens when my connection drops during a stream?+
With IRLHost, your stream stays live. SRTLA bonds multiple connections for seamless failover. If your signal degrades, NOALBS automatically switches to a "Be Right Back" scene so viewers see a clean holding screen instead of a frozen frame. When the connection recovers, you're back live automatically — no manual intervention needed.
What is NOALBS and do I need to set it up myself?+
NOALBS (Nobody's OBS Auto Live Bitrate Switcher) is a tool that monitors your stream and automatically switches OBS scenes based on connection quality. On IRLHost, NOALBS comes pre-configured — you don't need to install or set up anything. It connects to your Twitch or Kick chat and responds to commands like !switch, !bitrate, and !fix, letting you or your mods control your stream remotely.
Which encoders and devices work with IRLHost?+
IRLHost works with any SRT-capable encoder. This includes Larix Broadcaster (iOS/Android), Belabox, IRL Pro, Moblin, OBS Studio, vMix, FFmpeg, Wirecast, LiveU Solo, GoPro, and SRT Mini. If your encoder supports SRT or SRTLA output, it works with IRLHost.
Do I need to set up port forwarding?+
No. IRLHost provisions a private cloud VPS for you automatically. Your server is live within minutes of signing up — no port forwarding, no firewall configuration, no technical setup on your end.
Can my mods control my stream while I'm outside?+
Yes. Your mods can use Twitch or Kick chat commands to switch scenes, check bitrate, restart the stream, and more. Commands like !switch BRB, !bitrate, and !fix work directly in chat — no special apps or dashboard access needed.
Where are the servers located?+
IRLHost has relay servers in 5 regions: Nuremberg (Germany), Helsinki (Finland), Ashburn (Virginia, USA), Hillsboro (Oregon, USA), and Singapore. Each user gets their own isolated VPS running on 100% renewable energy — your server is not shared with anyone else, so other users' streams can't affect your performance.
How much does IRLHost cost?+
IRLHost Plus costs €11.99/month + VAT and includes your own private SRT relay server, NOALBS integration, auto scene switching, chat commands, real-time monitoring dashboard, and email support. IRLHost Pro costs €29.99/month + VAT and adds Cloud OBS with on-demand compute, remote OBS control, and priority support. No setup fees, no hidden costs, cancel anytime.
How does IRLHost compare to self-hosting an SRT server?+
Self-hosting requires setting up your own VPS, installing and configuring SRT/SRTLA, setting up NOALBS, managing port forwarding and firewalls, handling updates, and monitoring uptime. IRLHost handles all of this automatically — your server is provisioned and configured in minutes, with zero maintenance on your end.
Does IRLHost work with Kick or just Twitch?+
IRLHost works with both Twitch and Kick. The NOALBS chat bot and scene switching commands work on both platforms. Your SRT relay server works with any streaming platform that accepts an RTMP or SRT input.
Can I cancel anytime?+
Yes. You can cancel your subscription at any time through your dashboard. Your server stays active until the end of the current billing period. No cancellation fees.
